History:
Then and Now
The first UW History professor, Edmond Meany, was famed for his love
of trees. He planted dozens during his career, some of which still grace
the campus today.
Following in that tradition, Professor Richard Johnson will long be
remembered by the sequoia recently planted near Smith Hall, in honor
of his retirement after 44 years at UW.
