BOOTCAMP
Several years ago, a University of Washington Professor and
graduate student did extensive research on the development of
a green rating system to measure and manage the sustainability
of transportation projects. This research eventually lead to the
creation of an accredited rating system that is administered by the
501c3 nonprofit organization known as Greenroads International.
This project won the White House's prestigious Champions of
Change award in 2013. PacTrans more recently contributed funding
to this project so that the University of Washington student
chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA)
could host an event that they termed, Greenroads Bootcamp.
This event was meant as an outreach and training event for future
transportation engineers.

GREEN STORMWATER INFRASTRUCTURE
RESEARCH FACILITY
As part of a research project that PacTrans sponsored two years
ago, Oregon State University PIs, Meghna Babbar-Sebens and
Arturo Leon, in collaboration with Benton County, City of Corvallis,
Oregon Water Resources Department, and Oregon-BEST, built a
Green Stormwater Infrastructure Research Facility. This facility is
an instrumented, semi-controlled, and three celled testing facility
for green infrastructure that captures runoff from the Benton
County Public Works transportation yard. Each cell enables
field-scale testing of a roadside stormwater (natural or artificial)
technology, and provides opportunities for near real-time
monitoring and comparison with other technologies. PacTrans
has more recently contributed funding to this project so that an
educational video and web portal for the monitoring of data could
be developed. Those items are each linked below:

INTERACTIVE TOURIST INFORMATION
SIGN WEBSITE
Several years ago, PacTrans sponsored a research project on
traffic sign understandability. Oregon State University researchers,
David Hurwitz and Michael Olsen, utilized the wide array of
tourist information signs around the world as a case study for
this subject. PacTrans more recently contributed funding to
this project for the PIs to create an interactive information sign
website. This site is completed and linked below:
