PacTrans Welcomes New Faculty Dr. Eric Jessup Dr. Jessup returns to the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University as an Associate Research Professor and Associate Director of the Freight Policy Transportation Institute. He holds a bachelor and master degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate from Washington State University. Prior to this appointment Dr. Jessup was Vice President of the Transportation, Industrials and Energy group at Informa Economics, based in Memphis, TN. Dr. Jessup's most recent academic appointment prior to joining Informa Economics was Honorary Professor within the faculty of forest and environmental sciences at the Albert-Ludwigs- Universität in Freiburg, Germany. In addition to teaching transportation economics, logistics and supply-chain analysis in the renewable energy management program, his research activities led to three ongoing research projects, including two with German research agencies focused on development of computable general equilibrium models of the agricultural and forest sectors and one European Union FP7 research project (www.INFRES.eu ) focused on innovative and improved logistics for lignocellulosic biomass harvest, storage and transport. Dr. Jessup has authored or coauthored 25 peer reviewed journal articles and presented more than 142 academic papers at professional conferences, both domestic and abroad and he has an extensive academic history and public/private sector involvement with transport economics and freight systems modeling. Dr. Ali Hajbabaie Dr. Hajbabaie is an assistant professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Washington State University. He has more than 55 technical publications and more than 13 years of professional experience in Transportation engineering. He has contributed to a number of national and state level projects and his research is sponsored by the NCHRP, USDOT UTC programs (including PacTrans), and State DOTs. His research interests include traffic congestion management, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, connected and autonomous vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems. He is a member of traffic signal systems committee and the secretary of work zone traffic control committee of the transportation research board of the national academies. He also chairs the signal system asset management subcommittee and is the secretary of the research subcommittee of traffic signal systems committee. Dr. Leila Hajibabai Dr. Hajibabai is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Washington State University. Dr. Hajibabai received her Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering – Transportation Systems from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign (UIUC) in 2014. She holds two M.S. degrees, one in Industrial Engineering from UIUC in 2013 and the other in Civil Engineering from Tehran University, Tehran, Iran in 2006. Dr. Hajibabai's research expertise includes transportation logistics systems, with particular focus on resilient and economic city logistics, transportation asset management, sustainable infrastructure development, freight logistics, and GIS applications in transportation systems. She is currently a member of the Maintenance Equipment Committee, co-chair of the Operations and Preservation Group of the Young Members Council, and active in Network Modeling Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies and a member of INFORMS. Dr. Xianming Shi, P.E. Dr. Shi is currently an Associate Professor in Civil & Environmental Engineering at the Washington State University and an Assistant Director for the Center for Environmentally Sustainable Transportation in Cold Climates (CESTiCC). He has more than 20 years of experience in conducting engineering and science research, with a demonstrated publication record, especially in the fields of sustainable materials, infrastructure preservation and sustainable transportation in cold climates. He is a member of several expert committees under the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and an active member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE), of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). During 2004 to 2014, Dr. Shi led the Corrosion and Sustainable Infrastructure Laboratory and the Winter Maintenance & Effects Program at the Western Transportation Institute. 7 2014-2015 Annual Report
